The Mt. Wilson Observatory holds just a few concerts a year, and this is the last one until next summer. I think many of us have been to the Griffith Observatory, but fewer have been to visit the observatory at Mt. Wilson, located on a 5,710-foot peak in the San Gabriel Mountains, not far from Pasadena. They observatory was founded in 1904 by George Ellery Hale. We will attend the 3PM Concert of Brahms Piano Quartets. Purchase tickets at https://www.mtwilson.edu/concerts/. Please contact Amy (213 308 6176, amydgm@aol.com) if you will be attending this first-ever Wilshire Rotary trip to Mt. Wilson. I am also looking to put together carpooling options and a dinner afterwards in Pasadena for those who are interested. If you plan to drive yourself, please visit the website for directions as other maps sometimes provide incorrect information. Every ticket purchased helps preserve this historic site. One must climb 53 stairs to get to the observatory, and it is not ADA compliant at this time. The 100-inch telescope is the instrument with which astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered our place in an expanding universe and so expanded our comprehension. The dome for the telescope—designed by Chicago architect D.H. Burnham—is a 20th century temple to science whose acoustics rival the great cathedrals of Europe and provides a unique setting for this ambitious music series. |

Life with the Dodgers
Nov. 04, 2026 12:00 p.m.
Jon SooHoo is the legendary team photographer for the Los Angeles Dodgers. With the team since 1985 and official photographer since 1995, he is recognized as the first Asian American photographer in Major League Baseball. The USC graduate and fifth-generation Chinese American has captured some of the Dodgers’ most iconic moments, from Kirk Gibson’s 1988 home run to the 2024 World Series. |
